Studies on the Flooding Tolerance and Its Physiological Aspects in Fruit Plants

Abstract
This experiment was designed to examine the physiological changes of fruit plants as affected by flooding.
Young fruit plants were grown and tested in the pot under plastic house. The results are as follows:
1. Retardation of stomatal conductance was observed from the early flooding period in all fruit species tested, especially remarkable in Prunus species.
2. Trasnspiration and water potential in leaves showed decreasing tendency by flooding. 3. The efficiency of photosynthesis was remarkably decreased by flooding.
4. Flooding decreased the overall root respiration with flooding tolerant fruit species were much less affected.
